Hi Everyone!
I hope your summers are simply fantastic and you are enjoying the warm weather. Class, adventures, and life in general in Grenoble, France are going very well, each day brining about a new excursion! Conducting life in French is quite exhilarating! When I arrived, I rented a bicycle to get around the city.....it has a basket on the front and tall handle bars. I feel like the wicked witch from the Wizard of Oz when I ride around but the entire city uses them so it's not really weird haha
Of my many adventures, 3 are the most note-worthy for the moment, so voilà, they are below!
One day, I biked about 2 hours outside the city, found a mountain road, and pushed my bike up for a long time until I came some houses and a stupendous view of the Alps. My goal of the day was to get as close to the big, snowy mountains as possible so I just kept following the roads that looked as if they would take me there! I ended up in a gorgeous mountain valley surrounded by mountains and was very excited, hence the picture of me jumping up and down :P
Another adventurous morning, I left on a bus to go visit a monastery embedded in the heart of the Alps. I went alone, and after visiting the "La Grande Chartreuse" museum, I decided to take the mountain trail to be able to see the monastery from above. It was stunning, silently existing in a valley surrounded by huge mountains! I then decided to keep following the hiking trails, as I could see in front of me a ginormous mountain and I wanted to get to the top. So, I kept going until I was almost out of time.....I didn't make it to the top b/c I took a bit of a wrong turn and ended up on a grass/gravel slope on the edge of the mountain (near the top but not quite haha). So I ate lunch on a rock in the middle of this amazingness, not at the summit and not on the trail, but it didn't matter! Below are a few of the pictures from that excursion (and I even found some snow)!
Finally, a few days ago I rollerskied up a mountain road to the town of Vercours. The road is all uphill and after 1:48 of climbing, I was at the top....it was 95 degrees so I was so glad that I found a water fountain up there! The rocks, mountains, and view of Grenoble were stunning in the afternoon sun. However, I had no idea how I was going to get down because it was not even minutely possible to ski down.....believe it or not, I hitch-hiked! And within 10 minutes, someone pulled over for me....a young guy who was smoking, driving an old camping truck (which is his house), and had a fake rat on the dashboard. He was luckily very, very nice and he drove me down....I don't think that was the smartest of choices but it got me back down near the city quite quickly haha. Below are a few pictures:
And....a picture of my bike haha.
Anyway, that is a recap of my adventures in the Alps! I hope you are all doing fantabulous and I miss you all tons and tons!!
xoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Love, Izzo
